Over dinner I was trying to explain the Edison 'honk' to my wife. I was able to tap it out with my ring on my dinner glass. As far as I know, Tulsa was the only place where this custom existed. Of course growing up there and never having been much of anywhere else, I guess I just assumed every high school everywhere had a unique honk. I'm sure the other high schools in Tulsa had their own distinctive honks but I can only remember ours.
It's crazy the things you remember.
Scott,
How in the world did you remember that. Now that you mention it I recall we had one but don't ask me to tell you how it sounded. I guess your hard drive has more space than mine does!
I'm wondering if it would even sound the same with the European and Japanese horns on today's cars. It might sound a little tinny, like these 'midi file' songs that don't really do The Beatles or Dylan their due justice...
esp when on business trips or commutes when I'm bored I whip out that
edison honk and see how many heads I can turn. That beats getting the
finger any day! Hey Scott, how long can u live after you give someone
the finger in Houston.
